FIRST SATURDAY: National Monuments Day of Action

  • Walking Box Ranch Walking Box Ranch Road Searchlight, NV, 89046 United States (map)

Walking Box Ranch is open every first Saturday of the month for volunteering, house tours, special presentations and more. This month, we invite you to come visit Walking Box Ranch on June 7th, for the National Monuments Day of Action.

On Saturday, June 7, ahead of the 119th anniversary of the Antiquities Act (June 8, 1906), communities across the country will unite to show support for all national monuments, parks and public lands, in the face of this year’s increased threats of downsizing, understaffing, and dismantling. You can find out more about the recent issues here.

Grab your friends and family and come enjoy a morning out in Avi Kwa Ame National Monument to celebrate the National Monuments Day of Action! Drop by Walking Box Ranch from 9am to 1pm for free drinks, snacks, and an Avi Kwa Ame souvenir. We also have new maps and guides and can help you find great driving and hiking routes around the monument.

While you are here, take a photo or video of yourself or your group to share on social media and with our nation’s public lands representatives (find a complete list of contact info and suggested hashtags below). Hold a sign supporting our public lands or just stand by your favorite rock or tree (please keep your messaging positive--what do you love, connect with or want to see continue?).

Can't get out into the monument on June 7th? Here are some other ways you can help:

  • Sign the Monuments for All Petition against selling off National Monuments.

  • Communicate with your Senators and tell them how important public lands are to you. Thank our Nevada Senators for their continued support of our state’s national monuments, including Avi Kwa Ame.

  • Post a positive message on social media in support of our nation’s monuments wherever you are!

  • Share this info with family and friends and invite them to help support public lands.

Ready to Post?

  1. Include a short message about the National Monuments Day of Action and your love for public lands. (keep it in the positive, please!)

  2. Tag your public lands representatives.
We’ve included the social media handles for Nevada’s representatives below. Representatives for other areas of the country can be found here.

  3. Include #monumentsforall and #avikwaame, and challenge your friends and family to get out into nature and stand for our public lands.
