NIGHT Hike

Join us for a night hike in the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument as we explore one of the beautiful trails near Walking Box Ranch. As the sun sets, we'll experience the Mojave Desert in a different light while enjoying cooler temperatures, the sounds of the evening, and opportunities for night photography. The hike will be the day after the full moon, so we will see 95% of the moon's illumination.

Meetup Details

• Meet: 6:45 p.m. at the Denny's parking lot

• Hike: 7:00–8:30 p.m.

• Distance: Approximately 3 miles

• Difficulty: Moderate

Our hike will begin at the eastern trailhead of the historic wagon route, located just beyond Walking Box Ranch. The trail features a small parking area, an interpretive kiosk with a trail map, and a magnificent Joshua tree marking the trailhead.

What to Bring

• Plenty of water

• Light snacks

• Comfortable hiking clothes and sturdy footwear for a warm desert evening

• Camera or smartphone for photography

• Binoculars (optional)

• Tripod for your camera or phone (recommended for low-light photography)

If skies are clear, this will be an excellent opportunity to capture beautiful evening and full-moon photographs.

Pets Welcome
Well-behaved dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash at all times. Please bring water and a bowl for your pet, and remember to pack out everything you bring in, including all pet waste.
