Avi Kwa Ame National Monument ~ Spectacular Winter Skies

Photos by Kim Garrison Means

JANUARY 2025

Winter is a beautiful time to look at the sky in Avi Kwa Ame National Monument! Dramatic clouds, vibrant sunsets, wind, and even occasional fog bring wonder and mystery to the Mojave Desert. The clear, dark night skies make for great stargazing with opportunities to appreciate the Milky Way and prominent winter constellations like Orion and Taurus. Want to know more about the Milky Way? Take a look at this Gold Beam article by Francisco Silva of the Las Vegas Astronomical Society.
