Castle Peaks Trail - Part 2

Join our hike leader, Ilene, on October 17, 2026, for a hike along the Castle Peaks Trail in Avi Kwa Ame National Monument.

We will meet at the Denny’s parking lot at 100 U.S. Hwy 95 at 9:30 a.m. There are no restrooms at the trailhead, so please use the facilities at Denny’s before we depart. At 10:00 a.m., we will caravan to the trailhead.

From Denny’s, we will head west on Hwy 164/Nipton Road for approximately 7 miles to Walking Box Road. Turn left onto Walking Box Road and continue for about 7 miles until you reach the corrals on the right. From there, we will travel south approximately 1½ miles along Castle Peaks Trail to the next set of corrals, where we will park and begin our hike.

The hike is about 3 miles round trip, taking us about 1½ miles to the old windmill and then back to the vehicles. The trail is relatively easy, with little elevation change, but it is very rocky, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash.

Please bring plenty of water, snacks, and a walking stick or trekking poles if you use them. Come prepared for desert conditions and uneven terrain, and enjoy a morning exploring this beautiful part of Avi Kwa Ame National Monument!
