NOVEMBER 2025

Fall is a spectacular time of year in the monument! Thanks to the recent rain, there are more wildflowers in bloom now than there were in the spring, and we’re taking every opportunity to spend time surrounded by the beauty of the desert. It’s a great time for hiking, camping, and picnicking with friends. Bird-watching is a special treat this time of year, as migratory birds make stops in the monument area on their way south for winter.

Behind the scenes, we’re continuing our advocacy work, partnering with national conservation groups, and finding unique ways to introduce influential people and representatives to the Avi Kwa Ame landscape. Recently, Paula Jacoby-Garrett led a small group tour (including the chief of staff for Nevada’s lieutenant governor) on a flight over the monument provided by EcoFlight, a non-profit that uses small aircraft to educate and advocate for our remaining wildlands, watersheds, and culturally important landscapes.

On the ground, a group of folks from the Conservation Lands Foundation joined board member Alan O’Neill for a hike and picnic in the Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness. The snacks and company were delightful, but the beautiful colors on Avi Kwa Ame (Spirit Mountain) stole the show.
